Rincon UMC is a proud supporter of Family Promise. The Church participates as a “Host” church allowing the families to stay the week with us several times a year. We contribute financially to the organization here in Effingham County and we have volunteers who give of their time at the Day Center.
Our Church’s Coordinator is Marsha Cornell. You can call the church office at 912-826-5796 and they will help you connect with her.

Friend of the Family
20 in 10 Church Challenge
Week 6 – 63 gifts have been collected!!
Family Promise of Effingham is celebrating its first birthday. After a long time in the planning stages, Family Promise began serving families in June 2014. The network of congregations is the back bone of family promise. It takes a lot of meals, a lot of volunteers, many nights in safe, clean facilities to help a family move from homelessness to stability. Making such a profound impact in the lives of families also requires financial support for hours of case management, transportation, and maintaining the day center for families to shower, do laundry, and search for work. So, Family Promise of Effingham is inviting its closest friends to be true Friends of the Family by giving as many $20 donations as possible in the next 10 weeks. Homelessness seems like such a big problem that it’s easy to think we can’t do anything that makes a difference. Family Promise shows us that by working together in small ways we can make a dramatic difference in the lives of families. Our Vacation Bible School got us off to a great start by choosing Family Promise as its mission focus. In the next few weeks, please prayerfully consider if your family can make a $20 donation or maybe if each member of your family can donate $20. Can your Sunday School class give $20 to support children and families? If we work together, I wonder how many $20 gifts we can make? 25? 50? 100? More? God has been at work in amazing ways both great and small in the development and birth of Family Promise. I can’t wait to see what God will do with everyone working together.
Will you be a Friend of the Family?
Family Promise is off to a great start meeting the needs of homeless families in Effingham County. Under the great leadership of Marsha Cornell and Herb Jones and many willing volunteers, we at Rincon UMC have successfully completed our first two host weeks! In the first phase of Family Promise’s development the focus was on securing host congregations, volunteers, and facilities. The second phase is ensuring Family Promise’s long-term viability to ensure that we can continue to serve homeless families in the future. Club 180 is a group of people who commit to contribute $180 per year (just $15 per month) to sustain Family Promise’s mission. One goal is to have 10 people or families from every supporting church to commit to be a part of Club 180. Together, this would mean $27,000 of sustainable income for Family Promise. As members of the Board of Directors, Herb Jones and Pastor Melissa are already Club 180 members. Rincon UMC just needs 8 more participants. In this season where we seek to be grateful for all the blessings of our lives, please prayerfully consider if God is calling you to be a blessing for those in our community who struggle with homelessness.
